Banks’ Readiness for B2B Real-Time Payments

Eighty percent of banks plan to offer business-to-business real-time payments at some point in the future, as reported by this new Aite Group report. 

Boston, May 30, 2018 — Aite Group's latest report, Banks’ Readiness for B2B Real-Time Payments, focuses on the hesitation of banks to make large technology investments in a new payment workstream without a clear market demand and a realistic expectation for adoption. The new report examines how banks that don’t develop a strategy around B2B real-time payments risk falling behind with the launch of The Clearing House's RTP system.

“The expectation of faster payments is moving beyond person-to-person payments and creeping into the corporate landscape for B2B payments,” explains Erika Baumann, senior analyst at Aite Group. “With the launch of The Clearing House’s RTP system, banks are considering their strategies around B2B real-time payments,” she adds.

This new Aite Group research overviews U.S. financial institutions’ real-time payments adoption for B2B payments and is primarily focused on The Clearing House’s RTP system. Based primarily on the results of a January through March 2018 survey of 20 of the top 60 U.S. banks, it predicts implementation timelines, transaction volume, and methods of initiation, and offers thoughts on market ubiquity.
